TESAMORELIN is a synthetic peptide that acts as a growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) analog, approved by the FDA for the reduction of excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. It is administered as a daily subcutaneous injection.

MECHANISM OF ACTION: Tesamorelin binds to GHRH receptors in the pituitary gland, stimulating the natural production and release of growth hormone (GH) and subsequently insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). This process helps to break down fat (lipolysis), particularly visceral fat (the deep fat around internal organs), while preserving lean muscle mass.

FDA-Approved Use: It is specifically indicated for treating HIV-associated lipodystrophy under the brand name Egrifta® SV/WR. It is not for general weight loss.

OFF-LABEL USES: In regenerative and anti-aging medicine, it is used off-label for general abdominal fat reduction, improving body composition, enhancing metabolism, and supporting cognitive function and cardiovascular health in non-HIV populations.
